Teens! Join us for the First Annual Walgrave Astoria’s Costume Ball.

Come in your old Halloween costume and use you detective skills to gather clues and solve a crime.

Registration required. Ages 12-18. Teens only please.

Sharpen your pencils!  A writing class for teens is coming to Douglas County Libraries in October. 

Local author, Denise Vega, will show teens how to engage their readers using action, dialogue, and good description.  

Vega has written several bestselling books for young adults including Facts of Life #31, Access Denied (And Other 8th Grade Error Messages), and Click Here: To Find Out How I Survived 7th Grade. 

This program is recommended for teens 13-18 years old – space is limited, so register now!

Teen shutterbugs unite!

The contests for creative teens continue at Philip S. Miller Library (100 S. Wilcox St., Castle Rock).

• October 1 – November 14: Teens can register at the Teen Tower and submit any photographs that they’ve taken.
• November 15 through December 12: Entered photos will be displayed in the Aloha Teen Tower at the library and patrons can vote for their favorite picture.
• Monday, December 14: Prizes for the top three winners will be awarded.

Stop by the Aloha Teen Tower at Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock to pick up a copy of the rules and register.

Starting in January, teens can rock out at the Philip S. Miller Library.

Every Thursday, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Aloha Teen Tower, teens can play Rock BandTM.

Create a band of up to four, or play with whoever is in the Tower.

No registration is required.

Reading Buddies, the innovative program that pairs teen volunteers with struggling young readers, returns to Philip S. Miller Library. Reluctant readers in 1st-4th grade meet with a teen Reading Buddy once a week for reading and activities designed to make reading fun.

The Reading Buddy pairs meet on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., from February 10 through April 9.

If you are a teen, 13-18 years old, who is interested in volunteering for this worthwhile program, pick up your application in the Aloha Teen Tower and return it by January 30. You’ll have fun and earn volunteer service hours while you’re at it.

If you know a child in 1st-4th grade, who is struggling to read, pick up your application at the children’s desk and return it by January 30.

Are you a teen who loves books and movies?

Highlands Ranch Library has the club for you! Teens in 7th - 12th grade are welcome to come and participate in this fun book and film club which will cover fiction, fantasy, manga, anime, sci-fi, and more!

Come see an anime film and discuss anime and manga on Monday, January 26 at 7 p.m. While you’re there, pick up your copy of Feed by M.T. Anderson, and then join us for the next club meeting on Monday, February 23 at 7 p.m. to discuss the book.

Registration is required.

Are you in a book club or thinking of starting your own?

Douglas County Libraries offers a service called Book Club Express. Titles are available county-wide and are centrally housed at Highlands Ranch Library.

We'll provide you with multiple copies of a book, author biographies, discussion questions, and more!

A Book Club Express kit can be checked out for six weeks with over 150 titles from which to choose for adults, children, and teens. You can also reserve titles as future book club selections.

We are also happy to provide book talks at your book club meeting. Just leave your phone number and/or email information when you speak to us about Book Club Express.
